This scholarship honors the legacy of Darla Moore School of Business graduate and Marine First Lieutenant Jason Daniel Mann, who died in 2008 while serving in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Jason was a combat veteran of both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In 2005, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, graduating summa cum laude from the Moore School, which he attended as a Marine staff sergeant. Simultaneously, he earned his commission as an officer from USC’s Naval ROTC program. While attending the University of South Carolina, Jason married Shannon Mann, who graduated from the Moore School in 2007. Together, they have a beautiful daughter, Isabella.

Jason served with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines as a Scout Sniper Platoon Commander. He died on July 17, 2008, at the age of 29, when the roof of a building collapsed on him in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Jason was regarded by his friends and family as a devoted husband and father, loving son and brother, selfless friend and consummate leader of Marines. This scholarship will serve to underscore Jason’s outstanding sense of commitment, honor, integrity and excellence; values that the Darla Moore School of Business hold in high regard. In recognition of Jason’s remarkable service, this scholarship will carry on his legacy by providing financial assistance to those directly connected to military service who are pursuing their education at the Darla Moore School of Business and embody the values that Jason lived by.
