Giving at South Carolina

Students have had the opportunity to travel to the AIChE national conferences in Phoenix and Orlando. At these conferences, students’ network with chemical engineers from around the country through attending seminars of various current chemical engineering topics, participating in recruitment fairs, and learning from professional development workshops.

AIChE hosts professional development events with the goal of providing resources to aid students in preparing to enter the workforce We have brought employees from companies that we partner with to participate in panel interviews in which students can ask questions regarding their career path and their daily life working as a chemical engineer. Each event typically has a theme, such as women in STEM, manufacturing employees, non-traditional paths, and graduate school!

We host monthly social events to allow students to form relationships within the major and find friends to study with! Our goal is to strengthen relationships between students in the same classes as well as connect the upper and lower classmen to provide additional support to younger students. AIChE actively participates in community events, most notably our annual participation in the College of Engineering Open House. This event welcomes grade school-aged children to the Swearingen Engineering Center to explore various engineering and computing demonstrations. Each year, AIChE creates a cornstarch pool to demonstrate non-Newtonian fluids to attendees.
