Until recently, away game travel was less than ideal. Players and coaches piled into personal vehicles and vans for the long drive. Often, traveling parties arrived at different times, giving heartburn to our coaches and captains.
Food costs were born by players. That meant cheap, fast and non-nutritious.
Founded in 2022 by rugby parents Bill and Cindy McKernan, the Men’s Rugby Student Experiences Fund changed all of that. It transformed our life on-the road and provided opportunities for our players to bond off the pitch through planned dinners.
The fund supports safe charter bus transportation to away games and nutritious meals on the road. It also resources four on-campus team dinners. Guest speakers at these events help our players connect to USC rugby’s rich history and culture.
We encourage everyone – particularly parents – to support this fund and continue the McKernan’s legacy.
